I am trying to have my negative opinion heard about the medical and dental insurance only going  for 3 years for active duty soldiers surviving family members. I am trying to get enough interest from Senators and Congress to have it changed as I have discovered most other countries provide lifetime medical and dental for surviving family members and I am hoping to shame some of the US guys into getting behind a change. What I need is something written on a web page or manual that details benefits for Australian soldiers families in the event of a KIA status. One thing I truly believe is that the children should at least be covered until the end of schooling at least.....If you could help me I would appreciate it.

Hi Some years ago, I brought a matter to the attention of U.S. vets, and the matter was largely ignored because of the intervention of an Australian veteran "leader", Frank Grady. The matter concerned a local council at hell harbour that refused to allow six vets a plaque at a ground where we'd planted more than 230 trees as a living "commemorative walk". I was vilified by the general manager of that Council- Brian Weir, and a lot of vets decided not to buy into the matter, because it was difficult to know all the facts. I have now placed all the correspondence on the web at my site, so that all veterans can see for themselves what gutless bureaucracy is capable of- and how vets themselves can destroy a fellow vet. The site is http://www.members.tripod.com/warvet_69/ or "The Perspective of the Baggy-Arse Infantryman" -the view of an Australian infantryman and was wounded in action.

Well done, folks! Your support network is truly amazing, and now you're accessible to even more - good one!

Thank you Carla for the Pandanus article - you really understand, milady.  When does it come out in print in the 'Veteran Leader'? Issues 3+4 arrived, read, distributed and still doing the rounds. Top job.

Folks, if you're a vet and need some time-out, visit the Pandanus site. From there you'll be able to explore the private and unofficial sanctuaries set up by your fellow vets and their supporters, you'll find what suits you. You are all welcome.  And if you know of one that's not listed, please tell us.

:-)
